Inner Interior June Challenge for a Calm Mind : PAUSING

Lately, I have been inspired to share more of my daily practices with those who ask how I got to where I am today. While I have a long way to go, I am a completely different person than I was several years ago. There were behaviors that I learned which began to take over my life and were all driven by my spinning mind. The only thing that helped me stay centered and calm was a daily practice that was given to me by Moe, my mentor.

Today I would like to introduce the Inner Interior Monthly Challenge. I will introduce a new challenge the first Friday of the month, and you can practice it along with me if you feel like creating more space in your inner life. For me, it is helpful to work with a practice for just about a month, nothing more. Don’t they say it takes three days to break a habit? With a daily practice we are doing more than breaking a habit, we are developing a loving consciousness or way of living and a calm mind.

June will focus on pausing before we speak. If you choose to join in with me, our practice will be to pause before we respond to another person or a situation. This practice requires mindfulness and awareness of where we are and as constantly return to the present moment our mind will have no other choice but to be calmer.

I find when I pause just before I am giving feedback to someone, or responding to a question, my mind isn’t jumping out in front of me to be “right” or “good.”

Inner Interior Challenge for June

You may feel you already do this naturally, and I would still encourage you to try this practice and see how calmer you feel at the end of the day. When we are calmer, we sleep better and our connection to creativity is greater.

Be patient and let the practice “work” you….this is not meant to be easy, it is meant to be profound. Remember, there is no right or wrong, just do your best and let the pause work within you and you will feel different.

At the end of this month, I will share (here on the blog) how the practice worked me, how I felt and if my interactions with people were any different.     tina @ Colourliving - It’s always good to pause before we speak. I’m sure, although I often practice this, I default to wanting to interrupt or say something before the thought leaves me.
